Mimics
Mimics are intelligent, shape-shifting predators that disguise themselves as ordinary objects. Unlike simple ambush creatures, mimics rely on patience and deception, remaining perfectly still until the moment to strike.
They are capable of altering their form to suit their environment, most commonly taking the shape of containers, furniture, or other objects likely to draw attention. Once approached, they lash out, binding and consuming their prey before it can escape.
Encounters with mimics are rarely accidental. Their disguises are often chosen with unsettling precision, suggesting a level of awareness beyond mere instinct.
Chest Mimic

A common form adopted by mimics, the chest is an irresistible lure. Whether placed among real objects or standing alone, it invites curiosity, and punishes it immediately.
The party encountered multiple mimics disguised as chests within a room filled with identical containers. The danger was obvious, yet unavoidable, turning caution into hesitation, and hesitation into opportunity.
