Teralis is unlike most of the cities in the western part of the world of Zerith. While other cities were chosen due to ocean access, or mountainous protection, Teralis exists because of an inn. Terra Lynn started an inn at the middle point of the great East West road. It was easy money. She called the in the Weary Wanderer, and business boomed overnight. Soon she had enough coin and more than enough necessity that she opened a second inn, the Homeward Hearth, then a third, Road’s Respite. She opened 2 taverns as well, the Hogs Heart, and the Merry Meadhouse. They were all next to each other, with adjoining awnings, so you could traverse between them. Business continued to boom, as caravans knew it was a safe place to rest for the night. Terra hired guards to protect the guests and their wares, servers, chefs, maids, and other workers to man all of her establishments. Which meant housing. The construction crews enjoyed the area and steady work, so they settled to. Eventually the settlement became so big, it was no longer a pit stop, but an entire town, then city. As it grew, so did it’s local government, who wanted to give tribute to the recently passed Terra Lynn. They named the city after her the best they could, settling on Teralis.
Teralis is far more rustic than other cities, but no less secure. Rather than stone buildings, wooden buildings, log cabins, and other similar aesthetic fill the town. at it’s center, the 9 inns and 12 taverns form the city square. It’s outer wall are made of great logs, reinforced by mortar and stone. The population of the city has just reached 60,000, and while self sufficient for food and fresh water from wells, it also trades with passing caravans non stop.
