Hobgoblins

Hobgoblins are disciplined, militaristic humanoids who value structure, hierarchy, and strength through unity. Where Goblins rely on cunning and Gnolls on brutality, hobgoblins bring order to violence, fighting as coordinated units rather than individuals.

They are rarely encountered without purpose. Whether guarding, occupying, or serving under a greater power, hobgoblins operate with clear intent and defined roles.

Their presence often signals something larger at work, as they are known to align themselves with stronger forces when it suits their goals.

The party first encountered hobgoblins within the dungeon where they awoke, and later signs of their presence appeared again, suggesting they had been recruited or deployed elsewhere.

Military Roles

Hobgoblin Soldier

The backbone of any hobgoblin force, soldiers fight in formation and follow orders without hesitation. Individually capable, they become significantly more dangerous when operating as a unit.

Blade-bearer Hobgoblin

Specialized for direct combat, blade-bearers favor aggressive engagement. They push forward where others hold the line, breaking enemy defenses through sustained pressure.

Hobgoblin War-chief

Leaders among their kind, war-chiefs command through strength and authority. Their presence unifies nearby forces, turning scattered fighters into a coordinated and dangerous force.

Notable Individuals

Jarj the Hobgoblin Jailer

Not all hobgoblins hold lasting significance. Some serve their role, and fall, before their story has time to unfold.

Observations

Hobgoblins rarely act without structure. Even when encountered in small numbers, their behavior suggests coordination, planning, and a chain of command.

Where hobgoblins are found, organization, and intent, is never far behind.
